Wallflower

I seem to have
lost my voice in the crowd

My mouth opens,
my lips part

Barely a whisper of air,
just a halted breath

My words aren’t quick
to the draw

there’s no smoke
from a fire about to form

They speak so much more,
like they actually have something to say

I’m just over here,
second-guessing my brain

Don’t mind me
blending into the background

I’m just an accent to places,
but maybe not even that
